Nonpharmacological Approaches to Atrial Fibrillation

چکیده
Atrioventricular Junction Ablation Transvenous ablation of the atrioventricular (AV) junction was first performed with direct-current shocks in 1981.1 Radiofrequency energy replaced direct-current shocks for AV junction ablation because of improved efficacy and safety.2 Radiofrequency ablation of the AV junction has a success rate .95% and is associated with a low incidence of adverse effects.3 Although sudden death due to ventricular tachycardia/fibrillation may occur after successful ablation of the AV junction,3 this risk may be minimized by pacing at a lower rate limit of 80 to 90 beats/min for several days to weeks after ablation.

Cardiac arrhythmias are a major healthcare problem in the developed world. The American Heart Association 2017 statistical report indicates that atrial fibrillation, the most common cardiac rhythm disorder, has an ≈25% lifetime incidence and annual costs of ≈26 billion dollars, whereas sudden cardiac death (usually caused by malignant arrhythmias) affects fewer individuals (just under 200 000 A...
متن کاملCurrent Antiarrhythmic Therapy for Nonvalvular Atrial Fibrillation in Spain. Data From the FANTASIIA Registry.
INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES Recently, there have been many developments in the management of nonvalvular atrial fibrillation, antiarrhythmic and anticoagulant therapy, and nonpharmacological treatment, but these developments are not applied immediately in clinical practice. The aim of this study was to identify the overall management and antiarrhythmic therapy used in the current general popula...
متن کاملAtrial Fibrillation Rate Control in Atrial Fibrillation Targets, Methods, Resynchronization Considerations
Controlling the ventricular rate during both paroxysmal and persistent atrial fibrillation (AF), initially with digitalis preparations and subsequently with -blockers and calcium channel blockers, has been a mainstay for the management of this arrhythmia for many years. With the advent of a wide range of pharmacological and nonpharmacological approaches for maintaining sinus rhythm, rhythm cont...

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common sustained arrhythmia. It is accompanied by both structural and ion channel remodeling which underlie the propensity to perpetuate AF.The prevalence of AF is expected to increase as population ages and as more patients survival myocardial infarction. Despite pharmacological and nonpharmacological (such as ablation) therapies for AF, more effective thera...
متن کاملAssessment of P-wave indices as atrial fibrillation predictors in psoriasis patients
Background: Psoriasis is a prevalent chronic T cell mediated inflammatory skin disorder. Recent studies have reported an increase in the incidence of arrhythmia in psoriasis patients who run an excessive risk of metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular diseases. P-wave dispersion (PWD) and duration are important electrocardiographic (ECG) markers employed to anticipate the risk of atrial arrhythmi...
